Kenmar Drive is a street of condominium apartments south of Billerica Centre, between Concord Road and Boston Road. Its main line leaves Concord Road at the corner of Charnstaffe Lane and runs south about 1,400 feet; one branch runs west to the end of Mitchell Road and Karen Circle, and another runs east toward Innis Drive and Cunningham Lane. The buildings along it, two-story garden apartment blocks with brick veneer, are dated by the assessors to 1979 to 1983 and are held as condominiums, among them Plaza Place and Smithshire.
The land was part of Mitchell Estates, laid out on the "Plan of Land of Mitchell Estates, Billerica Centre, Mass." of April 28, 1935 (Plan Book 59, Plan 16), on which Mitchell Road ran east from Concord Road past the house lot of Mary H. Mitchell toward land of Blanchard and Innes, with a right of way on to Boston Road. The branch of Kenmar Drive that continues Mitchell Road probably follows the line of the 1935 street. At a special town meeting in January 1973 (Article 24, voted 113 to 3 on January 23) the town rezoned as a Garden Apartment District a tract south of Concord Road that included land of C. R. Traywick and Sons, Inc. beside the abandoned Boston and Maine Railroad right of way and land of Content Homes, Inc. shown on the 1935 Mitchell Estates plan, with the benefit of rights of way over Mitchell Road. The records found do not tie the street directly to that vote, but the apartments of Kenmar Drive were built in that area a few years later.
The registry's index first names Kenmar Drive in a deed of December 19, 1980, and the street appears in the town reports from 1994. The origin of the name Kenmar was not found, and no vote accepting it as a public way has been found. In December 2024 a special town meeting adopted the MBTA Communities Multi-Family Overlay District, one of whose four subdistricts is the "Kenmar District."
